Beach Baby Essentials.

Since we're relatively new as beach area residents I thought I'd enlist the help of a veteran beach baby Mommy—Melissa—to get the scoop on what to bring when hitting the sand this Summer.

Melissa grew up on Long Beach, Long Island and currently lives there with her hubby and adorable baby boy. So, she has a lifetime of experience—the perfect person to ask. Here is Melissa's take on what to take:

Sand toys—we've seen them anywhere from your local pharmacy to toy store. The below sand toys are eco-friendly by Oompa.
UV umbrella—we found ours at Sports Authority but I've also seen them at a local pharmacy and of course at One Step Ahead where this one is from.

Umbrella screw/anchor—not sure where Melissa found hers, but I located this one online.

Mesh bag to put sandy toys in.

Large towel—they chose one with anchors from Lands End, we've been using the Essentials Blanket by JJ Cole.

Large tote—Melissa has a yellow and white canvas bag from LL Bean, we snagged a striped oversized Martha Stewart tote that was on super-sale at Macy's.

Comfy beach chairs with cup holders—for beers from an icy cooler. I just picked up some basic ones from the pharmacy, but after checking out other beach bums I think we need something more like this.

Baby powder—just shake some onto your baby's sandy feet or bum and watch the sand fall off. Melissa also suggests putting some baby powder in a sock and tying it off. Then dabbing the baby with the sock. BRILLIANT! (Tip: keep the powder filled sock in a ziplock bag so it doesn't get all over the rest of your beach stuff.)

Small inflatable pool—For the smallest of tots who are too tiny (or scared) for the waves and sand. Melissa says this is not a necessity but it can definitely come in handy.

Aden & Anais muslin blankets—over the stroller when the baby is napping. They let the air in but provided some shade and blocked a little light. And now Serena & Lily have them in their own gorgeous custom designs.

Diapers and a dry outfit—for naps and trips home.

Thanks to Melissa for her words of wisdom. McMuffin and I have put this list to good use the past few weekends and I have to say—it is solid. Hope it helps you as you kick off your Summer vacations.
